HISTORY

Altea’s roots go back to elegant fin de siècle Milan. In 1892, between Via Verri and Via Montenapoleone, in an area which was to become the beating heart of world fashion, Giuseppe Sartori opened a tie shop frequented by the city’s most sophisticated clientele. An enterprising man with a lot of dedication and a great vision, Sartori took that very important first step, marking the birth of a company that now has a hundred and twenty years of history behind it and has seen four generations of his family take over the helm.

In the Seventies brothers Michele and Luca Sartori turned the business around, expanding the company’s historic tie production to include scarves and other fabric accessories.

The Nineties saw the final consecration of the total look for both men and women, still present world’s most important shopping streets today.

COMPANY

The path that lead to construction of Altea’s collections for men and women in the past decade is an unusual one. The Milan-based company, a brand known all over the world for its fashion accessories, started out with accessories and gradually expanded to come up with a complete total look concept. A great love of colour, custom designed fabrics, painstacking attention to detail and reinterpretation of the traditional codes of tie-making are the distinctive features of Altea fashion.

The new Altea factory is the result of the Sartori brothers’ ambitious plans, concetrating work that was previously performed in various different locations in northern Italy at a single site. In an age of delocalisation, keeping design, manufacture and production local is a decision that goes against the prevalent trend, demonstrating the company’s strong bond with tradition and guarantee of Italian quality.

It is a story which Altea is loyal to. It combines tradition andinnovation and succeeds in facing the challenges of the third millennium.
